Annual Salmon Festival
During the month of August, Rigolet hosts a three day community festival
promoting local culture as well as its developing tourism industry.
This year, the event is scheduled to take place from August 18 - 20.
Community volunteers have come together to form the
Salmon Festival Committee. Planning and organization of this event
have been in the works since May and are evident in this years exciting
schedule.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 6:00pm
on Thursday evening, August 18, at the Net Loft musuem located on
the water front. A community square dance, silent auction, and family
night will
follow, with a full day of activities beginning early Friday morning
and continuing until Saturday night.
During the festivities you will find a variety of
games available for children and adults alike. Ranging from a dunk
tank to sumo wrestlers, square dancing to a lumber 'J' contest,
and karoke idol to fear factor, we offer a little of everything
to appeal to everyone. Youth
dances and Adult BYOB's are held on Friday and Saturday evenings,
with DJ Jason Thistle hosting both adult events.
As well, local venders and entrepreneurs are setting up concession
stands which will be stationed throughout the Net Loft area and
operated throughout the weekend. Offering traditional soups, desserts,
crafts and snack food, the variety of local stands will not only
provide a taste of Rigolet, but is also used as a means to increase
local interest in the development of profitable business ventures.

The highlighting
feature of the fesetival is the anticipated Salmon Feast. Held at
5:30pm on Saturday evening, this meal is prepared by the community
for the community. With salmon caught locally, prepared within the
community and served with pride, attendence is high and satisfaction
guaranteed.
Following the auctioning of handmade crafts and the
Pretty Riggy drag contest, the closing ceremonies begin at the Northern
Lights Academy Gymnatorium at 7:00pm. Signalling the end of the
festvial, prizes are awarded to the weekend's winning contestants,
silent auction winners announced, ticket prizes drawn, and a presentation
of the 2002 Come Home Year Celebrations.
The support of Rigolet's local artisans and businesses
along with outside organizations have provided attractive donations
to be used as this years game prizes, auction items, and ticket
merchandise. Items to be purchased include two return Air Labrador
tickets anywhere they fly, one return ticket to Goose Bay on Innu
Mikun, one nights stay at the Aurora Hotel & Royal Inn Suites,
local dishes, grapnels, crafts and a complete Them Days Publication
to list a few items up for grabs!
